RESEARCH ON ARTIST

EL ANATSUI

An African artist, born in 1994, medias use are clay, wood, liquor bottle, mild can, alumninium printing plates and traditional believe objects.  His works look very beautiful, fine, and gorgeous.  One of my favorite case study is gravity and grace.

Art is a replica of life which means interminate life or life keep changing.  His art is like the fluid construct on the wall.  Anatsui defines the wall as human construction that use to protect them from freedom and create the boundary.  Therefore it is very contrast to his works.  The fluid and solid give the very different sense and meaningful.  I really like how he use the medium carefully.

MEDIUM

It is mosaic work which make from building block to build large picture.  His concepts idea is the use of illusion to make people misunderstand from the visual look of solid and fluid.  Anatsui needs a lot of understanding about the medium that he used.  Everything got links by its meaning, origin, material and etc.  He made the artwork looks like one smooth fluid sheet but actually there are some different among the same.

RED BLOCK

This red block made from aluminum copper and wire.  Anatsui use the technique of sensation, texture and curves to conveys audience feeling and this could include erotic.  I like this piece of work as well.  The red color really attract me and create the sense of violently, romantic, and rousing.

Therefore, I would like to use his concept idea about meaningful and eye illusion.  The meaning and the message of the work behind make the work more valuable and interesting.  Also from different perspective of view with eye illusion would give many various possible imagination.

MATTHEW BARNEY

An american artist born in 25.3.1967 His works are sculpture, photography, drawing and film performance and video.  

Concept      : leave audience to understand the installation themselves

"Wonderful and weird" and "beautiful and complex"

This is 5 features film explore the processes of creation.  The title of the work is about the muscle that raises and lowers the male reproductive system according to temperature, external stimulation or fear.  The main technique that he uses is symbolism for example the use of color red and blue could represent the blood vein.

"Whats it all mean"

For his installation he used symbolize and concept.  The viewer were left alone to experience the work and find resonance base on personal experience.  It is hard to figure out in the first time and it needs index dictionary manual to embrace the idea.  All human have different thought and imagination therefore everyone could view the works differently from their understanding.

I love how Matthew Barney wants to play with human imagination and let the audience experience the installation themselves.  At the end, there would be many possible views of the installation as each people would think differently.
