SITE: GROUND FLOOR, FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE, CHULALONGKORN UNIVERSITY
I chose this site because my installation deals with human consciousness and experience, which comes from the familiarity of the space. Most of the time people are not actually 'conscious' but are doing things routinely since they are familiar with it. This space is a small passage which connects the corridor to the football court and the main canteen area. People usually just walk pass by without actually paying much attention to the space. They're familiar with it and this property of the site will allow me to explore how the visitors will react when the space have been manipulated.
The projected area for my installation will be based from the size of the breeze wall. The installation will cover the entire breeze wall and most of the corridor between it.
1:20 model of the selected site.
This conceptual diagram shows how the human's senses should change according to the condition of the spaces they're in. These conditions are the conditions that will be created in my installation.
Dry leaves are added to the space to essentially 'change' it, making the visitors who are 'familiar' with the site aware that the site is not exactly how they remember it to be. This aims to raise their consciousness and awareness. The inevitable smell of the dry leaves will also make it harder for them to complete their quest of searching for a specific item since it distract their sense of smell.
A total of 24 shot glasses containing different fluids are placed on the breeze wall. Only ONE glass contains PURE WATER. All the fluids, however, are translucent liquid which makes it difficult to identify in the presence of strobe light which flashes at a rapid rate and brightness. The shot glasses that contains other fluids which are not pure water acts as decoy, thus the visitor will have to be adequately 'conscious' in order to identify which shot glasses contains pure water.
This sequential diagram shows the expected sequence in which the visitor will go through.
A wireless, battery powered, remote controlled adjustable LED light that was used as the strobe light in the installation.
3D Renderings to explore the lighting and shadow in the site, especially to study the possibilities of the breeze wall and the effect its holes has on lighting.
