I defined erotic as what stimulate desire and attraction. After researching, using lingerie as a study of erotic object to find out how and why is it erotic. Then, I came come with the conclusion that the reason that lingerie is erotic is that is a "attention seeker". I use this as my concept for the installation. The process of the attention seeker is that it attract, captivate and interact. In the installation project i used light as method to attract and used the pattern that the light produced to captivate visitor , to make the visitor become mesmerized by the object.
After, we were given to designed a shophouse. I continuing using the concept of attention seeker. The choice of the site i selected by choosing the site that attract me the most. Then , I found a site at rachatewi which has graffiti on it. I found graffiti very attracting and it also attract the people that walk pass by. The people that walk pass by would stop and look at it or take picture with it. Moreover, I notice that not only the graffiti attract people but it also transform the space. From an abandoned space, the building become an attraction. This is a good way to use the abandoned space as this abandoned shophouse were left abnadoned for 23 years. The land belong to the government, The wipe away the existing building to build express way. This makes me feel this area, a bubble area of shophouse would also soon be wipe away. This is the reason that i would want to give a presence or identity to the community. the Graffiti is an example of giving identity and ownership. The graffiti take the ownership of the abandoned space, and give it identity as making the space become unique.
My proposal is to create a community centre. A community center which allow people to come and graffiti on the wall and the building. then transform the graffiti that painted on the wall into a product that can be produce and sell by the community. This will give community to earn more income. The reason of creating the wall is to complete the urban fabric, by demolishing shophouse and no putting it back the area become a wasteland and this create a hole in urband fabirc like a missing tooth. This is also why the shophouse is put back at the original place. The Front of the building, The wall and the building where graffiti is painted on will be an attraction that will draw people into other project such as the community center and the park. The area in the park and in the building will act like a showcase, an exhibition to the public. This become a space where public and community interact. The front linear wall is also the revolving door which allow people to lead people into the site . The stair of the buildings is also locate outsite of the building to allow visitor or artist to walk around and graffiti the wall or to look at the graffiti works.
