Po's proposal: "Khaosan Muay Thai Gym"

The first plate shows the normal position of the shophouse. Where the function of the shophouse is the Muay Thai gym. There are two shophouses opposite of each other but of the same function. The opposite shophouse are different in material to give a different atmosphere, where one is more modern, steel and glass, and the other is more conservative, wooden material. This is to aim for a completely different targets, local and foreigner, or to open up choices for the user.

The second plate shows the other function of a shophouse, since both shophouses have the same function, the way to increase the interaction between both gyms, is to conduct an event between both gym, a fight. But as the limitation in space of the site, Khaosan road, therefore the shophouse itself transform to a arena that provide a space for people to come to see the match. The facade transform and the function of the shophouse totally transform. The space inside the shpoouse now become unavailable since their is no need to use it during the match, and only become the space supporting the arena and the fight. The two shophouse connected to form one space, taking up the road as well, then everything around it transform as well, street vendors would form around the arena only at the curtain time.

The two plate composition with a similar way so that when it is on top of another, it will show a very clear image of the transformation, creating a comparison of the two posture of the shophouse.

Po's Shophouse Research : Facade and Style

This animation is about the change in facade of the different architecture style and culture that i find in Bangkok.
It show the changing in facade in a way that it changes over time as well, so it is like a time line of the architecture style of Bangkok.

Po's post production analysis

The result did follow the hypothesis but there are also parts that did not went as aspected. There are more people than I expect but still not as much as I hope it would be. People does get drawn into the game mood, they react to the game such as excitement when the opportunities come. Free roaming occur as expect, people come by watch the match while smoking then left, some stay and come sit closer to the television. Group of student come and enjoy, I was surprise by once they watch the match, all of their conversation turns to be about either football or the match itself. I found it quite successful since people did have a topic to interact with each other and gain new experience

Sadly at the date and time the exhibition, there is one live match but it would be at 2:45am.

I want people to come and watch football in the Thai pavilion, and make them feel the atmosphere

television will be facing the audience directly so that more people will get attract to it, and it can be seen from a distance.

Hypothesis

People will come and look at the television, taking or asking about it, some will sit and watch and some will stand quite apart, also people walk by will stop and look at it.

since it is near by a smoking area, people sit to smoke and watch the match at the same time. Also people will buy drink at a faculty store to bring it to the match.

Po's installation development and process

 I choose the site to be the Thai pavilion at the faculty because I like the culture identity it processed.

Thai House, is a house which function support for living in a tropical

climate. It’s characteristic make it suitable to live in a tropical cliamte.

It’s main characteristic are lift on stilt, double roof, curved roof, made

out of timber, consist of water source, compose of many small house,

many windows, and many trees.

The tropical climate is very hot, so the Thai house are made to avoid

the heat, or let the heat escape easily. It also allow wind ventilation

to enter through windows to helps cooldown the area, when

combine with a near by water source, the area is cool down during

the day time.

The ‘Sala’ or pavillion is a important part of the house. It is for gathering to do activity and receiving guest. It is also

place where people spend most of their time in. It’s characteristic are similar as the main house but no wall to

receive the full wind ventilation. Activities taken place in the sala includes music play, eating, and reading.

This is part of the brochure I handed out on the exhibition day, showing research on football in relationship with Asian countries and influence it had on each other. I choose football because it play such a big roll in Thai society and yet it is something we taken it from western culture country. Football show a big contrast of Thai traditional culture, but some how it doesn't get notice as foreign, and blended in perfectly. It became part of a every day life in Thai society.

The chart shows the number of team in EU football league that has partnership with Asian companies. This show how football play a roll in Asian mind, where they can make profit where else, but rather invest in football

Below that it shows that football is a big part in Thai community, where many EU league are cast live for more than 400 matches per season, thus include both domestic and international match, and both league match and cup football.

and the map beside shows the number of Asian player are increasing in the EU football league. More team are to trust the Asian player for their performance. This show the yield of football in Asian culture.

I went and watch football live at the national stadium and analyze comparing all three places to each other.
