"Ningnong's" proposal: "See Saw Seen"

FIRST DOCUMENTATION : OBJECTIVE

When people walk pass or see the site area, the installation will become an objective where they pay attention to. By covering all the naked space with the white fabric bring the object in red become more outstanding and look more interesting to the viewers. 

Not only with the color, but the LED light also another thing that force people to pay attention on it, make them unable to ignore the space.

 The interesting fact is that the viewers who go inside the space and interact with the installation become the objective for other people to pay their attention on and become the one that look erotic. No matter what action they perform inside the space, they still giving the sense of erotic to other people who see them from outside like they performing an erotic movement.

Moreover, Seeing through the red chiffon fabric making people feel more erotic with what they see.

SECOND DOCUMENTATION : FEELING INSIDE THE SPACE

We can see people feeling obviously by their action or their face expression. The participants seem to be pleasure by laying down on the foam base. In the picture above i think we can see it clearly from both Aj. faces. They seem to be so relax and pleasure which mean that the installation did work it did change the people perspective with the site and make people decide to stay rather than leave the space that they used to think that it is awful.

 The layers of red chiffon fabric hanging down make the public space turn into a private space by blocking the sight of other people. It gives a freedom to people and allows them to perform any action without being embarrass.

INTENDED EFFECT

The site itself is not a good site where people want to go visit or stay there. It is a stair having the dead end at the end. Generally, people decide not to go there. I have a concept of preconception which is to change to perspective, the way people think and in this case is to inverse the reaction of people with the site. So from the place where people do not have an interest to visit and feel worse as they go deeper inside into an attractive place where people want to go inside and being pleasure as they walk down deeper into the site.

Because i want it to be the place where people want to stay so I change the stair steps into a flat soft ground where people can sit and lay down. If they have a chance to lay down and they do enjoy the environment around them there will be a high chance that they will stay there longer. I also place pillows on the soft base as a symbol telling people not to walk on it. Different people have different reaction to the pillow but no one step on it.

 

Ningnong's installation development: "Feminine"

After i did a research of two artist work, I try to find an interesting place in the faculty that would be a place for my installation and i came up with the site on fourth floor of the faculty. It is a stair that serve as a path walk to the back of the library that no longer be used and be locked. It is the neglected and abandon site that i think it is interesting in the way it is.

For me the site is a bit scary according to Thai belief and that make it worse. People do not want to get into the space. So i come up with the concept of preconception which is the way to change people perspective in this case I want to change the site where people want to stay away and never care about it to be a place where people want to visit and want to stay inside the space.

Fist development : Trompe-l'œil

First, i came up with the idea of Trompe-l'œil, an art technique involving realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions, which is to create the fake thing that able to deceive people and tempt them to come interact with the space.

Second development

Second idea for my installation work is still using the same concept as the first idea but different in the way to performing. The idea is to create the comfort space which make people want to stay rather than leave the space.

 I did a survey on which kind of fabric that most people like it in different term. And also did an experiment on light with the candle but the use of it seems to be fail because it does not give the sufficient light and also danger to place it in the site ( it can easily cause a fire).

 Final development

I did more research on what is the most attractive thing to people so that i will get the very effective installation theme that will effect on people feeling.

According to the survey result, woman seems to be the most attractive thing for most people so this turn to be a theme for my work. I adapt the main characteristic of female which called 'feminine' with my installation work.

Human is not a firefly, but both similar by the way they interact with the light.  Not only the firefly that like to stay near the light place but human also love to stay close to the light area. It can lead people to come around and stay near the light. Therefore, LED light become one of the important components for my installation.

In the site area is quite hot and the ventilation is very bad, one reason is that it us a dead end path so that the wind will not pass through it making people who stay inside that area feel so uncomfortable. So one of the thing that i must change in that space is the pressure and the temperature inside the space, first by using the dry ice to adjust the temperature and making the dream like scenario in the same time but it may harm the participant who come to interact with the space by smelling the carbon dioxide that come from the dry ice when it releasing the smoke or hurting themselves by stepping on it and it did not cool the space that much. So lastly i end up with the electrical fan which help emphasizing the softness of the fabric and make people feel much more comfortable.

He is considered a leading figure in the generation of artists whose artistic expression depends upon electronic, sound, and image technology in New Media. His works focus on the ideas behind fundamental human experiences such as birth, death and aspects of consciousness.

BILL'S INSTALLATION WORK

There are 2 types of video one with the sound and the mute one. Video with sound will transport the message which artist want to send us pass through our eyes and ears , But the mute one only with eye.

OCEAN WITHOUT A SHORE

 

“Ocean Without a Shore is about the presence of the dead in our lives. The three stone altars in the church of San Gallo become portals for the passage of the dead to and from our world. Presented as a series of encounters at the intersection between life and death, the video sequence documents a succession of individuals slowly approaching out of darkness and moving into the light. Each person must then break through an invisible threshold of water and light in order to pass into the physical world. Once incarnate however, all beings realise that their presence is finite and so they must eventually turn away from material existence to return from where they came. The cycle repeats without end.”

Site is at San Gallo church. Black square point out as a video representing about living and death. The altar been pointed out by its function and belief like normally what does it been use for.

 El Anatsui

An African artist, born in Ghana, 1994, Works in wood, ceramics, metal, clay, liquor bottle, mild can, aluminum printing plates and traditional believe objects. Also he want his art to reflect mystery of life.

El Anatsui was born and raised in Ghana. The kente cloth is native to Ghana and can have significant cultural meaning. Below is a picture of a traditional kente cloth.  Comparing the colors and designs of this cloth to El Anatsui’s work you can see how that influence has carried over.  The colors carry specific meaning to the people of Ghana.

AKINDRA SASA

 

Text on some aluminum sheets, several of which were once use for funeral announcement ,make a note of the birth and death dates.It is a message in which the wording of at least one refer not to garbage, but what he call waste lives of far too many fellow Africans

Also resemble the Adinkra mourning, cloth of Ghana

 

 The one on the left representing object that been used as a death announcement and late on it been apply on other material. But anyway its root meaning still be the same no matter how much it change , the purpose still about the death.
