The overall of the installation didn't come out quite well. The mood I try to present didn't reach that level as I expect it to be. Some of the viewers didn't know what all these photos mean by looking at their expression.

The big mistake of all is my installation needs daylight. To completely fill the sensation, sunlight would be the best to light up the installation rather than using artificial light.

Moreover, the instructors gave an advices of open windows to let the wind in as making a better wind circulation since I didn't turn on the air conditioner. But the problem is wind will make the photos twist and tangle so I have to close all. Another thing is the newspaper on the wall completely distracted the viewer, made the instructor thought it was also part of my installation.

Other suggestion from friends is having real grass on the floor and walking with bare foot. Some said there should be white birds .

Viewers tended to go outside rather hanging around. As from their reactions, it was quite far from its concept so that I will have to say my installation wasn't quite successful due to the overall outcome.

So after getting all advices and suggestion, it would be nice to make another version of the installation in daylight as i want it to be. I photoshoped grass and place in the site change from night time to day time. The result came out like this.

The installation was made to change the visitors feeling toward the site, to kind of allure them to walk inside and take more time staying there. It is basically about the feelings arise while walking. Once you enter the corridor, music will kind of dragging you into the dream, a calm and relax sound will make you imagine walking on the grass with slowly wind.

The corridor is approximately 26 meters long which will take about 23 second to walk through. Eight photos are hanged evenly along the corridor, help extend the walking duration up to 1.15 minutes.

The way photographs hanged are based on the feeling of those photos present. The calm one will be at the beginning, the more intense one will be at the back. It also hanged in an average eye level. The photos are attached to the translucent sheets to give a floating feel as related to the music.

The collage drawing shows hows the photos and time duration are related.

Corridor on the 8th floor

The corridor on 8th floor has a very long and narrow passage way. It is bright space which is exactly what I want the site to be. Since it is a passage, people tend to walk pass and ignore. It isn't the place where people wouldn spend their time there. The diagram below shows the usage of the spaces and how the site doesn't have much interaction with people.

As i walked through out the site, I found it quite boring because of its noiseless. However it also gives a feeling of a little bit scary but make me feel relax and calm at the same time. 

And before finding the concept, I was trying to find my definition of erotic. And I came up with many words to describe it as shown below.

I chose allure (but that is after I chose excitement, I tried with my installation but it doesn't work that well so I changed.)

allure is like charm which involves in eroticism. It is a highly attractiveness and able to arouse hope or desire. Alluring can also be define as seducing that leads to sexual intercourse.

After finding all these and researching on chosen artists. I decided to make that space more interesting, make it kind of alluring visitors to get into the site. I chose media devices to change its atmosphere by using audio.

Above is an example of mixed sound. I combined them all and experimented at the site. It didn't work that well since this is my first time creating sound and the corridor takes only 23 second just to walk through. So I discussed with my instructor then we came up with using photograph of the faculty which will be hanged along the passage in order to slow down the viewers and have more time to really get into the feeling.

The theme of photographs that came into my mind are going to be bright kind of living in the dream, nature things, birds and anything give a calm feeling. I chose this because I want to keep the relaxing feel in the site.

The last one is the final photograph.

After knew how to use garageband, I finally created a proper soundtrack. 

So I had my friends listen to it, The result came out better than I thought. The sound does pull you in and give a feeling of living in wonder world.

The diagram above shows the different type of sound I created before combined them for the final sound.

The tone of effects is like a very large bell, creating sound reflection which normally will give a mystery feel. But I

changed its pitch, made it higher to make it feel like dreaming.

And here is the example of bell sound.

I also used sound effects that you can find in the faculty. For an example, I made the bird sound to play exactly where the bird photographs were located. There are more like the sound of walking which i already modified it. I actually didn't use the one I recorded because it has too much noise that couldn't be use.

Kati's research on Elmgreen Dragset and Diller Scofidio

MY CHOSEN ARTIST:  ELMGREEN AND DRAGSET

Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset have worked together as duo artist since 1995. Their works explore between art, architecture and design and are known for subversive humor artwork with serious cultural concerns.

Since Elmgreen came from poetry and Dragset studied theater, so they started out doing performance. Here is one of their performance; it's never to late to say sorry.

It is a megaphone which is installed in public area in Rotterdam city. Everyday, the passer each make their own personal interpretation. This work changed that space and became a place full with people.

Powerless Structure is their first series of large work. They use everyday object with some modification and become an inspiring and thought-provoking installaion.

Their ideas are from social power in life which is homosexual society and their relationship.

The brightness of shady lives, this installation is at Taka ishi Gallery. They present a large shelving system with 500 framed photographs of various gay cultural and everyday life. 

 

The display is exaggerated both in terms of quantity and the meaning of family. It doesn't obtained any rights or acceptance but rather claim their own identity.

MY CHOSEN ARTIST:  DILLER SCOFIDIO

Richardo Scofidio and Elizabeth Diller are actually architects. Their works mix the architecture with installation performance and media art. 

This one is called Para-site. The installation took place at MOMA. They uses the metaphor of parasite both physical and socially, and turn its architecture into the host

They use the live video of people activities in museum to offer the entertainment value. Like in this picture the video was installed near the escalator to record and play it in another room in order to create a new experiment toward that space.

Travelogues is the work permanently installed in the arrival building at JFK airport. 33 screens evenly spaced along the corridor; a place people pass through and not stop. 

Each screen holds 1 second of action and create a real time moving pictures as walking along the corridor. It is the short fiction of travelers and how their stuff in the suitcase identify them and their travel experience. Below is the video in result, what it will be like while walking through this corridor.

EROTIC ARCHITECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY

This was the sculpture in BACC. The holes within holes gives a feeling 

of hiding, mysterious and want to seek more.

This is the base of the column at BACC. The reflection of warm light on the

base material show stronger curve of its shape which makes it feel emotional.

This is the corner of the room. The faded light from the 

rooftop gives an increasing of feeling.

This is the escalator taken at BACC. You can see the line that all go 

into the same direction which gives a more depth of view.
