Sand's Site Analysis: Saphankhwai
![]() |
| overall of the plate |
Saphankhwai is located between Mochit and Ari. Before BTS station was built, the area was full of shophouse along the road. However, after the BTS station was built, many of shophouses were destroyed then changed into condominiums and supermarket.
From the sections, the first one is a section of the high-rise condominium in opposite of the shophouse.
The second is the section in the area beneath the BTS station.
The third is the shophouse and another shophouse.
In the rectangular is the area which I am interested for the next project.
I am quite concern about the circulation in the site because my previous concept of the last project is about Pause and Flow effects. So the diagrams are shown the people and vehicles changing over time.
Sand's shophouse research: generations

Sketch1 and Sketch2, I was walking around and did a quick sketch of them.

Sketch3 is plan of my grandmother's shophouse that I used to visit.

| Sketch4 |
Sketch4 is the basic main points of the shophouse, in my opinion.
- Widen Entrance, connected the shop with public space
- There are two zones in the building: first floor is public, second and all the rest are private.
- Every shophouses need staircase
- There is no space for gardening.
However, What I am interested is not about those function of the shophouse but the renovation of the interior space that is related by the owner with many generations. For example, My grandmother renovated her shophouse to has a studio bedroom at the first floor because she is too tired to climb up the stair to the forth floor when it is a bed time.
‘Erotic Architecture'
For me, it
is the architecture that impacts your sensation though the space and makes you
concern or attract within the space.
‘Staircase Lounge’
The project objectives are to make people pay greater attention to the space and without noticing before getting into the space to make a big impact. Because, normally, the staircase uses as just a walk pass way so there are none of people who care much about this space. With my project, they interact more with the space and change their behavior; from walking though to sitting and chatting.

Sophie Calle
A French Artist who has a unique method to
create works. Also she is a writer, photographer, director, installation
artist, and conceptual artist. She was born in October 9th, 1953 and began
working as an artist in the 1970s. Most of her works are associated with
strangers and present their private lives.
My favorite work of her works is 'the sleepers', because this work is her early work of observation to other people behavior in term of sleeping habits on her bed space. So one bed had used in the same function but with different people using it, the space somehow did not seem like the same space.

performances in the idea of personal danger as artistic expression.

| Beam Drop, Chris Burden, 1985/ Beam Drop, Chris Burden, 2007 |
His famous works mostly are the performance work using his body, however I like the art work 'Beam Drop' which basically is I-beam dropped by crane about the forty-five meters high onto the fresh cement pit. So, in my opinion, the sculture makes people to re-concern about the architecture because most of modern buildings use I-beam as the main structure and they are usually used in grid pattern or some kind of pattern (not a random pattern). By dropped them randomly, The concept is interesting.
