"Jane" proposal: "Bobae Night Plaza"

What I want to do in this Project is to
create another shopping experience
in to the Bobae Market.  So I choose to
bring Paragon into the Bobae Market.
Actually these two places are completely
opposite from each other, so I want to
know if I will choose just some elements
from Paragon and put it into the Bobae
site. What will happen? And How much it will affect the people?

Paragon main element:

- Lighting display
- Smell
- Decoration/ plant/craft
- Commercial
- Cool temperature
- Water fountain
- Sound
- Polished (reflecting) floor

Paragon is a luxury mall, in term of the atmosphere that it create. Entering through the impressive glass-and-steel atriums, flagship stores of designer brands such as Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Versace are clustered in the prime positions around the main escalators, each fighting for attention with elaborate window displays and the lighting arrangement that really get attention from the people who walk pass by.

Bobae Night Plaza

In the end, I came up with this one mechanic system that will all create these element : cooling the temperature, light, sound, and smell by install the facade in front of the shop house. The facade will start to transform at 7 pm and end at 12, as the facade is moving the nozzle will turn on and mist will come out of the facade, the water will be connected from the bathroom inside the shop house. The sound will also come out from the facade and will be activated with the light.
Between the shop house there will be a water wall which will give the reflection on the ground, remind about the polish floor of Paragon mall and also give a relaxing smell.

"Jane's" site research: "Bobae Market"

http://prezi.com/qctqn1onwc0p/present/?auth_key=fevvnz4&follow=icq-zseclnkp

This is very interesting site, Bobae market has been well know as the wholesale garment center for over 30 yeats. It is a very huge market with most of the part are the outdoor, hot and sweat while other part are in the Bobae Tower which is an air conditioner maket. This diagram is illustrated the different between this two type of market. The display are very important in term of shopping experience. Display can really interact with people when they pass the store, it can get there attention and sometime even influence them to check into the store.

This is the Bobae tower. The people walking in the tower showing the circulation and activities that s going on in the building. The color represent the temperature inside the building. The radient is from Red- Blue, of course red mean hotter and blue is cooler, you can see the different by looking at the parking lot. The heat from the car make the atmosphere in the parking lot hot. The car in the drawing also represent how the traffic are inside the tower. When i visit the site, took me like an hour to just park in the tower, because the seller will drive their car and park in front of the entrance in order to put down their product.

This diagram show the different type of display. Include : Retail, Store fixture, Grocery, and Trade Show display.

This diagram is illustrating the different type of light. Include: using light for brand commercial, illuminate shelve light, scenographic lighting in sell area, using light to get attention, and lighting with LED techonology.

showing the detail of the shop display and the type of light

This diagram showing things that is going on outside the tower.
In here there are two type of outdoor market, which is shophouse and the street vender.
From what i have research, seem like

The possibilities for the next project

This diagram is showing what it can be in the next project. From all the previous, I was forcusing on the people's perception, what they will feel when they enter this space. So what I want to do in the final project is to create a new experience in shopping, by rearrange the interior or added/ subtract some element to give another feeling.

"Jane" Documentation "Can't get over you"

A scene in dining room, waiting for him to come back from work

"Finally, today is the day you’ve been waiting for. Our 7th anniversary. You’re here every year, on the same table, sit in the same chair, with his favorite meal. He will always be here not later than 8 pm, he is probably very tired today. Hope that this special meal will make his day. Oh, you should be ready with his present too. Last night you wrapped it and put in on the table on the second floor. Maybe you should bring them down, and get ready.
"

There isn't a chandelier on the ceiling but the shadow illustrate the idea of having the chandelier above your head.

"Do you remember? The day that you and him painted the entire wall in pink. We’re so in love. This is the tallest part of the house, the high ceiling makes it possible to set that huge Christmas tree there, right beneath the chandelier. You used to decorate it together, and he will hold you up so you can put that silver star on top of the christmas tree. Underneath it is the present boxes, which made it almost unbearable to wait for Christmas so you can finally unwrap the surprise. You smiled, and decided to wear that necklace from him again today.
"

A clock hanging? or not? on the wall??

"Keep on walking up, it should be near here. What time is it now? Oh it already, 9pm he should be here by now, did something happen to him? After you got his present, you should try to call him, to see if he is okay.
"

A blank photo frame, allow you to imagine whose on the photo

"It should be next to that picture frame, next to the corner. It was the picture of your birthday. Look at his smile, look at your smile. And that doll he gave you. The cute little teddy bear, you can no longer sleep alone after it.
"

Behind you there is a door opened, is it your bed room?

"Can you hear that sound behind you? It's from the television. Probably from your bedroom, where you forgot to turn it off last night. Why don't you turn around and go up to your bedroom so you can turn that thing off?
 "

Bedroom, the last scene of the installation. Here in this room, is where you start to realize that something is wrong. In the beginning of the story, you thought that you are waiting for someone to come back for the dinner, but actually there isn't anyone.

Documentation VDO clip, (during the afternoon) Sorry that I can't took the VDO on the presentation day, because there wasn't any light, it is impossible to see anything. So this one i did it on the another. Some of the element was gone, the maid took it away.

"Jane" Installation Drawings: "Can't get over you..."

Site Drawing

Setting

Axonometric Drawing with Axo. element

This diagram show how the installation will be like if I insert all of the elements. But then I feel it will be more interesting if there will be less element, so it will allow people to imagine more. So I did watch a movie called Dogville by Lars Von Trier, which is a very interest movie. It was a filmed in a studio with a minimal setting. In the movie you will see only a plan on the floor. There isn't a real house or a wall to separate each room, it was just a line. The actor must imagine that there is a door and wall in the scene. And I think it will be cool to if i will minimize the installation.

Plan Drawing

Axonometric Drawing with plan element

So this is the version that I did on the presentation day, where I just put only some element on it but most of them will be on plan floor (red line on the diagram).

The last diagram, is showing how it will be look like if it's not on the campus.

"Jane" installation development: "Can't get over you.."

Can't get over you...

For me Erotic mean something that you are addicted to, eventhough it hurting you but still it somehow make you feel good. It can be drugs, alcohol, or love. Some kind of love is painful but sometime you prefer to stay with it. So "Can't get over you..." is a project that talking about a love story. I seriouly were inspired by Sophie Calle. So the first thing that i did is asking people to response a my story.

Peach

Penpen

After I listen to my friend response, I feel like hopeless and hopeful in the same time. I want to make something that will remind me what to do and what to become. So I came out with the story of love. Not a happy ending type but still touching. I don't want to say this is sad story, maybe there isn't a ending to this story. In the end it will give you a question mark, a question, how do you feel? Do you feel sad to be like this? Can you accept it? Or you want to get over it...?For some people, stop love might not be as easy as to be in pain. Some choose to hold on, keeping the feeling eventhough the one is gone...
_________________________________________________________________________
So what I will do for the installation is to bring both idea from Sophie and Tokujin. For Sophie is to bring people into her story, while Tokujin is letting the person walk into space.

This diagram show the different way that people can read a story. It can be as simple as watching, I think this one even give you more the idea of what you are reading because you can see the image and sound in the same time. Reading a book is also another way that allow you to imagine more. Sometime people prefer reading a novel rather than watching movie, because reading allow you to imagine more, for example:  a character and the scene. For more, listening is another one that I think have the same idea of reading, because it also allow you to imagine.

This diagram show the different way of how you can play with space. Changing its proportion, interior, sound, light, and color can give you different perception. For example, narrow and wide space can give you completely different perception.

So I will combine these two technique together, which is let the person listen and walk into the space in the same time.

Location: The stair near the print store - from the first floor to third, in front of the INDA meeting room.

There are so many advantage in this area. First of all is the strong pink color on the wall, which at first I think it going to look nice with the spotlight on it. After I choose the site, I took a couple time to walk up and down the stair, and I think it can be a good place where I can install thing in it. For my project I want people to go into space and get the perception of what I want them to feel. so I need a space where people can move around the site.

1.........Finally, today is the day you’ve been waiting for. Our 7th anniversary. You’re here every year, on the same table, sit in the same chair, with his favorite meal. Last night you wrapped it and put in on the table on the second floor. Maybe you should bring them down, and get ready.

2…….. Outside the window pane you can see the panoramic view of the garden. Last year, right there, you were there with him, laying around on the mattress above the green grass. Yes, it certainly was a warm day, but a breezy day. He popped a can of soda and spilled it onto the grass. You jokingly said that's a wrong way to water the garden, and he laughed. Oh you should not forgot about his present on the second floor.

3……...Do you remember? The day that you and him painted the entire wall in pink. We’re so in love. This is the tallest part of the house, the high ceiling makes it possible to set that huge Christmas tree there, right beneath the chandelier. …… Yeah, it’s here, you found his present

……    Can you hear that sound behind you? It's from the television. Probably from your bedroom, where you forgot to turn it off last night. Why don't you turn around and go up to your bedroom so you can turn that thing off?

6….. The remote should be on your bed..

….. So how do you feel?

"Jane" research on "Sophie Calle and Tokujin Yoshioka"

Sophie Calle work is distinguished by its use of arbitrary sets of constraints, and evokes the French literary movement of the 1960s known as Oulipo. Her work frequently depicts human vulnerability, and examines identity and intimacy. She is recognized for her detective-like ability to follow strangers and investigate their private lives. Her photographic work often includes panels of text of her own writing.

Take care of yourself, is one of the most famous work that she did. I really like this art piece, what she did is asking 107 women to response her letter that her ex wrote for her. "I received an email telling me it was over.

I didn't know how to respond. It was almost as if it hadn't been meant for me.It ended with the words, "Take care of yourself."And so I did.I asked 107 women (including two made from wood and one with feathers),chosen for their profession or skills, to interpret this letter. To analyze it, comment on it, dance it, sing it.Dissect it.  Exhaust it.  Understand it for me.Answer for me.It was a way of taking the time to break up.A way of taking care of myself."
She allow other people to come in her place, to face what she is facing.

The letter from her ex-boyfriend.

Designer Tokujin Yoshioka who we know from a previously featured interactiveHermes display design, will present an installation at Kartell flagship store in Milan. The installation “Snowflake” will be created with transparent acrylic prism rods and will be presented in the whole space of Kartell flagship store in Milan.

“I will create a serene world with numerous transparent prism sticks in plastic. The accumulation of transparent sticks is tinged with white color just like real snow.
I believe that the installation will offer visitors extraordinary experiences as if stepping into the snowflake.” – Tokujin Yoshioka

Jane- "Can't get over you..."

This is another story, another side of LOVE
For some, to stop love might not be as easy as to stop time, and live in the memories
The past, no matter how painful, is the only way to still cherish the person that you loved...
Some choose to hold on, linger to the pain, so that the memory of that person would remain in their hearts forever.

"Can't get over you" is installation that will bring you into the space
It will bring you into "her"
to see and to feel
in her perspective
of LOVE....

Erotic Architecture photo taking - by Jane

Location: escalator connected to SF cinema at Central World to Centara Grand Hotel
Description: I did take this image during the hallway from SF cinema at Central World to Centara Grand Hotel. The red light ready get my attention, so I did bring my camera up and took the picture of it. The red light give the eye the direction to follow where the line started and end.

Location: Siam Paragon, ground floor
Description:  I look up on the ceiling of the Siam Paragon mall. The repetition of the curve line make this picture special.

Location: Centara Grand Hotel
Description: Light can give you so many kind of feeling, warm, peaceful, and calm. However, this image also show the contrast between the dark and the light.

Location: In front of the Central World (Centara Grand Hotel)
Description: The reason that i choose this picture is because of the form of the building look 'erotic'. This picture is very different from the other image, which the previous one mostly are in curve line, but this are all in strength line and also give the perception of  'erotic'.
