Ploy's small animation

This short video show how the movement of the parking cage.

PLOY's FINAL PROJECT: PARK(ING)PARK

PARK(ING)PARK addresses the prospect of surprise and perversity of the banal as architectural eroticism. An entire row of dreary shophouses in a dead-end alley of Bangkok, typically congested with chaotic traffic and haphazard parking situations, is transformed into a mini-city of mechanized parking + park platforms wrapped in green gardening surfaces. Parking and park programs coexist to transform the banal, lifeless, most of the time unoccupied concrete environment into a surprising spectacle of urban park and gardens,  interspersing and constantly moving in the midst of tame, motionless automobiles.

Here, are the process and how each ones are set by the rules, the drawings show where people get access and the elevation where the pattern creates.

The master axon shows how the mechanism operates and also the 3 repetition-modulars, which segmented by the types of vehicles variations. The variations create the pattern due to their rules which will different by the dimension and cages.
The interior perspective shows the combination of activities, PARK(ING)PARK together, the little gap between the cages is the park and the cages are the parking.

Ploy's site Research: Som Dej Pra chao Tak sin Road

After selecting this site, I'm looking briefly in the shophouse as a whole and 1 unit by observing the interior and exterior of the shophouse.

The questionnaires were carried out to the users who live in this shophouse, who are workers and the shophouse is objected to be the business purposes.
However, after looking at the conclusion from the statistics, the objective of changing the shophouse to the business purposes isn't strong enough due to the fact that it already turned into that purpose and the owners and landlords prefer it this way.

Therefore, I look in more detail in other aspect about how the car circulated into the this dead end Soi. There are also large difficulties for the cars to circulate before it arrived into the finish line which is this area.

The result from the research and observation is people tend to park there cars outside, the public space which make the situation worse due to the lacking parking lot in the space. This result in a lot of traffic jam inside the soi in rushing hours and there also lots of accidents happen.

From the supporting research, this type of soi has lot of accidents and the numbers, statistics proof that this long soi with large community is very dangerous. So, my proposal is to create the parking lot for the community. The program "x, I added into here is Park.

For my erotics field "the banal and perversity", who would imagine that the shophouse can converted into the parking lots with the green scenery where people usually come as a routines. It won't be the space for the security guard only but for the community. Moreover, as the car generating lots of pollution; carbon dioxide etc., however the park emit those bad gases and turn into good air. This is very contradict in term of function where Elmgreen and Dragset always inspired.

Ploy's model behind the scene

Shophouse Exterior

The whole constructions are made from the metal, this act like the real structure, I-beam, rafter and others load bearing structures. This model allows me to adjust any floor level as the transformation might be occur when the time pass by.

The section of the shophouse has 2 major floors and one garret, under the roof for store the products which has to be sold daily.

Shophouse Interior

The stairs are adjustable and can be chop up in 3 parts, this allow the transformation in this 20th century.

Ploy's animation Past and Present shophouse

 Explanation:

The typology of shophouse is the past and present shophouse where the exterior remain the same even the structure, but the only different is the interior. People used the space differently in each period, this lead to new style. For example, the level of the house in the past, we used a simple steady staircase, but now it seems much more adjustable. You received another vision in this 'old' structure.

Ploy's documentation and post-analysis

The video captured the site circulation of the whole performance and also the real performance that took place on the 15th Feb 2013. There were the performance and the critique at the end.

"Guerrilla Welfare"

To me the erotic is unpredictable and can bring exciting or surprising moments to a gray day. After having an analysis about 4 installation artists, I was inspired by the work of the duo, Elmgreen and Dragset and Spencer Tunick because these three bring a lot of sense of humours and an abnormal representation with the normal medium.

First of all talking briefly about the style of the two, Elmgreen and Dragset’s work is an irony style by grabbing banal furniture to create their artwork. The furniture is very familiar in all people daily life, so you will be able to continue the story by yourself. Spencer Tunix is more using human body as an artwork itself. He attracted an attention from the audience by the living human sculpture. Those are the concept I inspired to create my own installation.

For the site, I pick the faculty third floor toilet because I want to make a mockery of the austerity of our faculty’s toilets. As usual, we use them everyday and we have to serve ourselves. There is no soap, tissue rolls provided and sometimes it unhygienic, I once saw a rat in the toilet as well. We all have been visiting the toilet. So I believe that we are all have different background and experience in the public toilet. Therefore the installation will start up the narrative and you all will end the story by yourself.

Therefore, my concept is to create a five star private club within the lacking facility an experience of the faculty toilet. There would be an attendant who serves you, scrubs your hands and massage. This would turn a part if a normal boring school life into exciting wonders, turning a gray day into the brighter day. So, my expectation is to surprise the visitors with an pleasurably unforeseen experience. The amazed look and different reactions from each individual will make the atmosphere even more alive!

The title is “Guerrilla Welfare” is to mock the word “Guerrilla warfare”.  “Guerrilla” referred to the surprise element and “Welfare” is the result of this sarcastic operation.

Ploy's installation development: Guerrilla Welfare

Later on that I picked the two artists and brainstorming about the furniture I'm going to use as a medium, I came up with a public toilet in our faculty because we all used them everyday and some more than once a day.
Therefore, everybody is familiar with the space very much and to know about good design for public restroom is a standard for me as a toilet designer to know. What there need to have to meet the standard for the public toilet.

After the toilet research, I came up with the two main concept.
Firstly, I want to create more of history or a myth into the toilet by applying the scribble wall where you might be the one who write something down. The title would be underlined "A kissing corner".
Second concept would be to change the whole bathroom into non familiar place, may be a five stars toilet in the hotel where you were served by the items of tissue rolls or soap dispenser.
For the chosen idea, I then decided to do the second one because it was much more interesting in term of surprise element in your normal daily school life.

The concept is underlined "Guerrilla Welfare", we will serve you in the installation exhibition instead of you who served yourself everyday. the logo is to do with the palm as we will have an attendant who scrub your hands nicely and softly like you are disappear from the faculty to the five stars hotel.

Ploy's research on Elmgreen&Dragset and Spencer Tunick

First of all I started the research by picking the installations I was very interesting for and it came out to be four different style artists which were Elmgreen & Dragset, Joan Jonas,Katrina J. Murray and
Spencer Tunix.
Talking briefly about Elmgreen and Dragset, there work are more with the irony of politic, sexuality with create the sense of humours to the attendants. He love to bring up the narrative and let you imagine the story ending by your own experiences. Lots of the medium were banal furnitures that you always used in your daily life, bed, doors or even a staircase. This created a lot of your attention and love to be more imaginative with the installation.

About Joan Jonas, she using the characteristic of mirror and monitors such as delaying effect or left to right side, inversely representation to create artworks and using human as a performance.

The third one, Katrina J. Murray, she used the banal materials scribe a drawing or a word that were meant to be a language and these were the sign and a medium for communication from the artist to the others. It was more of the expressionism.

Last one was very amazing, Spencer Tunik was always using real nude human as a performance. He believed in how the human body is much more interesting than others medium like furnitures or word scrubbing and this attracted lots of attention from other people as well. It emphasised the installation itself and be more than sculpture because we are all living sculpture.

After analyse deeply into the four artists, I came up with the brief thinking process of my new installation inspiration. Therefore, I took two people as my primary artists which were the duo, Elmgreen & Dragset and Spencer Tunick.

EROTIC ARCH. PHOTOGRAPHY

First of all I try to set my theme to focus of the escalator in different view, while I'm on them because it created movement while we taking a photo and will lead to better angle and everything that you normally don't see.

This photo was taken in BACC Art gallery, I was trying to focus on the psychological behaviour of human. Normally, we feel much more safer in the brightness. As you can see from here the light above is the main source and the surrounding is darker. Therefore, you tend to drag yourself up there for security reason. The result is kind of attracting you to be in the part.

Another picture was taken at Paragon main escalator, this picture is a lot with repetition and layers together showing an unlimited floor. I try to give the emotion of the curiosity, what is up there? In the highest floor and the lights are appeared to be emphasized the floor itself.

This picture was the part where there is a subject and a background. The light already attracts the attention from the whole picture. It in the shiniest and brightest object in the frame, the emotion would be curiosity, mysterious and emphasis.

The last picture was taken in paragon escalator, the picture focused on the human form, body. If you look at them carefully, you can see the contrasting of both legs are close together and the next were split in a shape of movement
