Mew's installation development: Memory

DEVELOPMENT  #1

MORE INSPIRATION FROM MOVIES

Mulholland Drive :

The story of one girl who has amnesia for long time which she has forgot her lover.

However, her lover knows and try to recover her memory back together as their old time.

Chunking Express :

The story between one guy and one girl that already broke up but the guy still love the girl.
He thinks of her everyday.
Not only that but also use his imagination in make the imaginary friend to talk about how much he miss her.

The concept that i would get from analyses artists and movie is the imagination but because imagination is to broad so i scoped to "MEMORY"

DEVELOPMENT  #2

MIND MAPPING OF CONCEPT - MEMORY

Memory is to imagine things or story which is a part of timing included past, present, and future. Those part of memory will contain important events, experiences that has done, feeling for things that has happened, also the familiar things in everyday life that has seen many time. Those will lead people to created the imagination which contain it as memory.

Example: People can see one object in different perspective or imagine it differently according to the experience or feeling that they have had from their memory.

DEVELOPMENT  #3

SITE / LOCATION RELATED TO CONCEPT OF MEMORY

Located in between Tiger cave and Ball court

Why it has to be in between Tiger cave and Ball court?

All activity took place in those area from Y1- Y4. Not only that but also the most important
event for student in this faculty is the initiation and graduation which every generation have to pass through these events. That make those locations are memorable for everyone. In additional, Tiger cave and Ball court also located at the center of Faculty which every student will always walk pass it in everyday and every times. On the other words is means the center of student when they met.

DEVELOPMENT  #4

THE INSTALLATION

The diagram shows the concept of memory that i related it to the image of installation by three main circles mean short-term memory and long term memory that divide into two major part which is semantic memory and episodic memory. Short-term memory is the thing that commonly happened in everyday life. Example, ordering food, consequence of traveling, etc. Semantic memory is what we have learn since we are young. Example, counting number, knowing letter, spelling and etc. Episodic memory is about the important event that make people feel very bad or very happy or very impress. All of those combine into the system of memory which this lead to the form of my installation below.

Form of the installation (TOP VIEW)

                                                              (PERSPECTIVE VIEW)

The form of installation is to be hang above the ground so i decide people the be able to hear things from the installation by just get in their only their head but inside the installation would provided the darkness to avoid the distraction from the surrounding thing. When people see only black, their head would be empty and clear to imagine things and to think back to their memory.

DEVELOPMENT  #5

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SITE AND INSTALLATION

The diagram shows the relationship of the site and the installation. As it shows in the diagram that the memory that took place at tiger cave is short-term memory and for ball court is long-term memory so i put the installation in position of 1-2 according from the system of memory's diagram.

The sound also related to the event that happen from the diagram about by people can feel the different period of time and events by the tone that it shifted to 3 tone.

DEVELOPMENT  #6

HOW PEOPLE GET IN THE INSTALLATION?

The installation would stand still and people have to tuck there head into the installation to hear the sound in the dark installation. This technique is better than close the eye because when people know that they were closed their eye they will feel nervous which this is a feeling that can distract the process of imagination that lead to memory. So dark room wouldn't put any pressure to the audience.

DEVELOPMENT  #7

SPEAKER AND SOUND DIRECTION

I did the experiment between the cube and the cube that has pipe inside which one would express the sound better which the result is no different.

Sound direction

The orange dot is the sound energy and the arrow lines show the sound direction that come from the center of the installation.
