A scene in dining room, waiting for him to come back from work
"Finally,
today is the day you’ve been waiting for. Our 7th anniversary.
You’re here every year, on the same table, sit in the same chair, with his
favorite meal. He will always be here not later than 8 pm, he is probably very
tired today. Hope that this special meal will make his day. Oh, you should be
ready with his present too. Last night you wrapped it and put in on the table
on the second floor. Maybe you
should bring them down, and get ready.
"
There isn't a chandelier on the ceiling but the shadow illustrate the idea of having the chandelier above your head.
"Do
you remember? The day that you and him painted the entire wall in pink. We’re
so in love. This is the tallest part of the house, the high ceiling makes it
possible to set that huge Christmas tree there, right beneath the chandelier.
You used to decorate it together, and he will hold you up so you can put that
silver star on top of the christmas tree. Underneath it is the present boxes,
which made it almost unbearable to wait for Christmas so you can finally unwrap
the surprise. You smiled, and decided to wear that necklace from him again
today.
"
A clock hanging? or not? on the wall??
"Keep
on walking up, it should be near here. What time is it now? Oh it already, 9pm
he should be here by now, did something happen to him? After you got his
present, you should try to call him, to see if he is okay.
"
A blank photo frame, allow you to imagine whose on the photo
"It
should be next to that picture frame, next to the corner. It was the picture of
your birthday. Look at his smile, look at your smile. And that doll he gave
you. The cute little teddy bear, you can no longer sleep alone after it.
"
Behind you there is a door opened, is it your bed room?
"Can
you hear that sound behind you? It's from the television. Probably from your
bedroom, where you forgot to turn it off last night. Why don't you turn around
and go up to your bedroom so you can turn that thing off?
"
Bedroom, the last scene of the installation. Here in this room, is where you start to realize that something is wrong. In the beginning of the story, you thought that you are waiting for someone to come back for the dinner, but actually there isn't anyone.
Documentation VDO clip, (during the afternoon) Sorry that I can't took the VDO on the presentation day, because there wasn't any light, it is impossible to see anything. So this one i did it on the another. Some of the element was gone, the maid took it away.
The video is very clear and provides a overview of different people going through the experience. I think the most interesting aspect is to see how they navigate the space in relation to the narration and the objects.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the lighting conditions on the day of the installation, I believe you actually benefitted greatly from the blackout, which made the piece much more immersive and compelling, more of a discovery. This means that perhaps the planning of the installation should have included lighting absolute control, which is certainly something for you to consider on your coming project.
The way of defining space and program through floor signage and objects is a very interesting aspect that your installation brought up. I would encourage you to keep exploring this in the coming project as well as through researching the effects of signage in our daily activities and how this can be utilised for the creation of compelling experiential spaces that may portray new narratives.
Overall, congratulations on a very compelling piece. Looking forward to the coming project!
