" Shine like Diamonds Installation"

 The Attention Seeker

The installation was an attention seeker which is attract people from far and then lead people to the installation, the light will lead people to the installation. As the visitor get closer, they will able to patterns that generate from the light. The moving patterns captivate people and stay focus to the installation. It also allow you to interact , to touch and play with the installation and so you could control the moving pattern and see how pattern changes and move. The installation is also meant to be the obstruction to the space so the visitor will give it attention

From the observations, The visitors interact to the installation by pull and spin the lights which generate the the moving pattern.   The patterns create a dream-like experiences. Aj.A also commented that ' you could stare at them for hours' which mean the installation does captivate the visitors attention.

PINKY's: Documentation and post-analysis

Post-Analysis

The installation with different lights.
The installation covered the Hua Med. It does not fully covered the whole object behind. When the wind blew, the installation would move and change place as it revealed different part of Hua Med.

Installation on 10th floor balcony

Reaction of the viewer

On the day of presentation, the color light was broken so I used white spotlight instead. So the installation's effect did not fully perform as I intended for it to be. However, the white spotlight gives a different experience. The light was soften and comfortable to the eyes, making it more pleasant to look up at my installation. At first, I intended to use colored light because when the light's color changes, it will give different sensory.

When the wind blew, the installation move along the wind and it will change from positions to another without touching it.

The viewers have the tendency to look up to the Hua Med. The installation lead the viewers to look on Hua Med which was normally ignored because it was too high to stare at for a period of time. The installation successfully emphasized the object behind it.

Kendo's documentation and post-analysis on "Perception"

Due to the power cut that occurred during the presentation, it affected the visibility of my installation and caused lack of light. Nevertheless, The presentation was still carried on with help from hand held flashlight.

My interpretation of "erotic" is the act of integrating a subject to another in the way that trigger your senses to outshine. The senses in this case consist of touching, seeing, tasting, knowing, hearing and smelling, which our normal daily lives may have us forgetting to notice what senses we have experienced. Therefore the intention of my installation is initially to have people engage in a scenario to become part of the installation, temporarily forgetting their daily lives. Secondly, reducing the ability to do a certain activity with created limitations to certain senses, in this case, seeing, which makes the users even more involved and attentive to their senses. This resembles my interpretation of erotic in integrating a subject to another. Ultimately, this installation is named "perception" as it allows users to perceive the norm differently, as the instructors were unexpectedly made to be in a dating dinner scenario and having them interact with each other as if romantically but in an abnormal way.

The installation is the medium that impacts users directly resembling how the studied term “erotic architecture” impacts their users.

Pink's documentation and post-analysis on CLOUD IT

First of all my selection of this site was accidentally useful to the audience at that night due to the electricity were blackout. It is right after I started to install my installation that the electricity were blackout. During the day of the installation I found that this site was outstanding from itself because I set the installation in the middle and it was so dark that my work was helpful for others' to see the hall.

Hopefully my respond for the installation was successful to the audience. Seemed like many of my classmates were saying that the installation was beautiful by the warm white light and the uniqueness of the cotton fiber from each shape. They were enjoy guessing what shape would be and I heard some of them were argueing what the shapes are. They really do think differently and it is interesting that human's imagination is so powerful because they could judge by their experience and imaginations.

Jan's documentation and post-analysis on You can, Can you?

FIRST ANALYSIS : OBSERVATION

SURVEY
The survey was created to ask people how they actually feel towards the space and when they accidentally step on the letter. Most of the answer were said that it was okay if we did not tend to step on it.

EXPERIMENTATIONS
Does the place matter?

EXPERIMENT 1

The interviews asking how people  feel and the video recording their reactions towards the obvious Sor Tor - it seems that people tends to walk away according to their thought that it was a piece of art work that belongs to someone. That's why they are walking away as much as possible.

EXPERIMENT 2

The location was changed to in front of elevators to aim the people who come in and out of the elevator. the result was that most people keep avoiding it even they were forced to notice immediately that they are out form the elevators. There are lesser people who step on Sor Tor

.
THE PLACEMENT WAS MATTER

SECOND ANALYSIS : PRODUCTION

DOCUMENTATION : FIRST EXPRESSION
At first, I let people walk from the front gate in order to make it looks more sacred that the statue is looking to us, and let them investigate. Ajarn were the first people who actually step on the installation which made other students followed.
When they first saw the installation on top of the letter 'สธ', the first expression that i saw was just a 'stunning' expressions

DOCUMENTATION : CHANGE OF FEELINGS AND EXPRESSION
Not so long, people began to saw a soccer ball which make they realised that the whole installation is the soccer field. Audience actually knows that it was created for playing not for just looking - they started to play and changed their expressions

DOCUMENTATION : RESULT FROM THE AUDIENCE
Many people said that it was okay for them to step on the Sor Tor indirectly via the installation. A girl also said that it was quiet new to her because she never step on the letter and she never know the feeling when step on it as well. There was also a girl that step on it accidentally, but suddenly she turned and said that she felt guilty for some reason but when she saw that her feet was on the installation, the feeling was kind of relived.

RESPONSE OF THE INSTALLATION
It was very successful to convey people's feelings and somehow I felt that people's just forgot that where were they right there because they tends to play and expressed their 'joyful' feelings. The audience actually kissing the installation and the installation actually kissing the architecture erotically.

Rin's documentation and post-analysis on Neglected Space

FIRST ANALYSIS : VISUAL

For the first documentation, i shoed only the photography of the installation to the audience, to let them imagination and give back the response of what they think "What is the installation trying to achieve?"  I wants to explore how different mind of people will understand the project differently.  Many people described my work as.......

SECOND ANALYSIS : PRODUCTION

The installation is 95s long with animation and sound to tells the story of the site.  At the first scene,  the use of sound effect with only blank projection make people curious with what had happen.  They were stared at the projection and look for something happen.  This will make them eager to know more and expected that there should be something very amazing.  The 2 moves is when the crack started, this was so interested and fully explain the feeling of the site.  The water that ran out of the wall represent the tear and sad.  Some audience started to notice the story on this step.  When the fungus spread out demonstrated the idea of revenge, anger which is a strong feeling about the erotic.  At the end there was a fast move which shock and grab attention of the audience.

Photograph while presenting, everyone were concentrated at the installation.

RESPONSE OF THE INSTALLATION

It was very sucessful in conveys the feeling, and tell the expression of the site.  It was a good animation with nice detail of water running and fungus spreading.  The sound help the animation to be better and make more impact.  Everyone like the end of the installation which use the dynamic change of the scene which give a strong feeling and erotic.

Photograph while presented to my classmate as experimental

One of my classmate was interested in my installation and want to explore the projection closer.  She liked how it can expressed the feeling and it looked really realistic.

In conclusion, the installation was completely expressed the ideas of sadness, anger and revenge.  People could feels along with the installation and at the same time they were curious to know more and look forward to the end.

This video records some part of the installation to make more understand of the project.

Fon's documentation and post-analysis on Toilet Elevator

C's documentation and post analysis on "Blind maze"

The space is a long walk walk which resembled to a maze, and on the wall there is a texture of fabric which would lead their ways out of the space. The audiences have to focus on their sense of touching as they have to depend on them to guide their ways. The wall is construct such a way that would make the audiences to focus with them as if they miss where the wall are going they would be trap inside the space.

In the space it is pitch dark, so the audiences have to focus on the texture on the wall which acts as a guideline leading their to the exit. In the space the audiences have to use their sense of touching as they would not be able to see anything except feeling on their hand.

I defined the erotic as something that can be feel by not only our eye but also by the feeling of touching. i think the feeling of erotic also would be something that the people are touching without knowing what it is. Erotic is something that people have to participating in the art or some acts so they can get the feeling of eroticism.

The response of the audiences received after they experienced the space is that most of them were scared by the darkness and wanted to get out of the space as fast as they can, some of them did not get to the finished point as they were afraid by the darkness inside the space. the advice given by the audiences is to make the way to an exit more clearer as most of the audiences did not know which is an exit without telling them

 REACTION FROM AUDIENCE

The reaction from the audience are different from each other. Some of them say that, the moment which ice touches their skin without being prepare gives them goosebumps. Some says that my installation reminds them of a Thai movie named "Jun-Da-Ra" which is a very erotic movie. It is because the most famous scene from the movie was when the main character uses ice to rub against a female character. Some asked me before they even enter "is there anything in there that is rather dangerous?" Some of the audience found my installation to be amusing and relaxing due to the hot temperature from outdoor. It can be said that the installation was quite successful in terms of erotic through touching which was one of the keyword I mentioned early.
But saying that my installation was completely successful would not be entirely true. That would be considered as a lie. Most of the audience who walked through my installation did not receive the message behind it. I consider this part of the installation as a failure. Only 1 or 2 person asked me whether the installation was about life. Even the instructors who came to my installation did not mention anything about the message I was trying to give.
To conclude on the installation, I consider the installation to be not as good as it would be. I walked through obstacles along the way, which includes rebuilding and buying the installation again because half of it was trashed by the faculty's janitors the morning before the presentation. That tragedy causes my installation to not be 100% complete as like everyone would want their works to be. In order to improve the installations, I came up with several things that I conclude from documenting the audience:
  • Let them walk into the installation 1 by 1. People who entered in pairs or groups seems to be amused with the ice and wetness. If people walk in alone, maybe they would took more time to investigate the installation.
  • The path is too straight forward. Redesigning patterns of the ice pack curtains to redirect the path that people will take and make it more unpredictable.
  • Make brochures with brief description of the installation.
  • Cut out the meaning part? concentrate only of the touching experiences.
  • Hang other materials which would relate to other meanings which supports the concept?
Lastly, I am quite happy with my installation and in see people walking through my installation with different reactions, it was very enjoyable to observe the reactions. I think I was going too fast with the process, eager to finish it on time. I was afraid that using ice will not be successful due to the amount of variables I need to deal with, so the time spent on the concept and procedure was not enough, causing weakness in concept.

  EROTIC INTERPRETATION
For me, the word erotic goes only in one direction. Erotic involves a couple, it involves a couple, it involves love, and it surely involves sex. My own definition of erotic can be described through action between 2 people, or between a person and a medium, or even a person and an object. From the first project, the erotic photographs, I focus mainly on taking photographs of obvious eroticism and objects which made me feel tempting to touch or observe it. It seems like my definition of erotic involves touching very strongly. So the installation I've accomplished on the second project answers my own question or what is erotic?
