Pink's documentation and post-analysis on CLOUD IT

First of all my selection of this site was accidentally useful to the audience at that night due to the electricity were blackout. It is right after I started to install my installation that the electricity were blackout. During the day of the installation I found that this site was outstanding from itself because I set the installation in the middle and it was so dark that my work was helpful for others' to see the hall.

Hopefully my respond for the installation was successful to the audience. Seemed like many of my classmates were saying that the installation was beautiful by the warm white light and the uniqueness of the cotton fiber from each shape. They were enjoy guessing what shape would be and I heard some of them were argueing what the shapes are. They really do think differently and it is interesting that human's imagination is so powerful because they could judge by their experience and imaginations.

AXONOMETRIC

The axonometric representing separated colors to identify which spot is for. First at the pink star we encounter with the stairs to walk up to the other floors. As we are walking the installation itself is hanging in the middle and we actually see it from the first floor but if we walk to other floor we would see different shapes of cloudsthat represent the image of bull, fish, human face, etc.

HOW TO MAKE?

Little cloud shapes

Big cloud

INTENDED EFFECT

The installations intend to let imagination of visitors to have freedom in shaping the clouds. Which when they see the clouds, there are so many forms of them that they would be guessing what the shapes are. This installation is to reflect human's mind that they would imagine anything they could by different of experiences they have met.

 REACTION FROM AUDIENCE

The reaction from the audience are different from each other. Some of them say that, the moment which ice touches their skin without being prepare gives them goosebumps. Some says that my installation reminds them of a Thai movie named "Jun-Da-Ra" which is a very erotic movie. It is because the most famous scene from the movie was when the main character uses ice to rub against a female character. Some asked me before they even enter "is there anything in there that is rather dangerous?" Some of the audience found my installation to be amusing and relaxing due to the hot temperature from outdoor. It can be said that the installation was quite successful in terms of erotic through touching which was one of the keyword I mentioned early.
But saying that my installation was completely successful would not be entirely true. That would be considered as a lie. Most of the audience who walked through my installation did not receive the message behind it. I consider this part of the installation as a failure. Only 1 or 2 person asked me whether the installation was about life. Even the instructors who came to my installation did not mention anything about the message I was trying to give.
To conclude on the installation, I consider the installation to be not as good as it would be. I walked through obstacles along the way, which includes rebuilding and buying the installation again because half of it was trashed by the faculty's janitors the morning before the presentation. That tragedy causes my installation to not be 100% complete as like everyone would want their works to be. In order to improve the installations, I came up with several things that I conclude from documenting the audience:
  • Let them walk into the installation 1 by 1. People who entered in pairs or groups seems to be amused with the ice and wetness. If people walk in alone, maybe they would took more time to investigate the installation.
  • The path is too straight forward. Redesigning patterns of the ice pack curtains to redirect the path that people will take and make it more unpredictable.
  • Make brochures with brief description of the installation.
  • Cut out the meaning part? concentrate only of the touching experiences.
  • Hang other materials which would relate to other meanings which supports the concept?
Lastly, I am quite happy with my installation and in see people walking through my installation with different reactions, it was very enjoyable to observe the reactions. I think I was going too fast with the process, eager to finish it on time. I was afraid that using ice will not be successful due to the amount of variables I need to deal with, so the time spent on the concept and procedure was not enough, causing weakness in concept.

  EROTIC INTERPRETATION
For me, the word erotic goes only in one direction. Erotic involves a couple, it involves a couple, it involves love, and it surely involves sex. My own definition of erotic can be described through action between 2 people, or between a person and a medium, or even a person and an object. From the first project, the erotic photographs, I focus mainly on taking photographs of obvious eroticism and objects which made me feel tempting to touch or observe it. It seems like my definition of erotic involves touching very strongly. So the installation I've accomplished on the second project answers my own question or what is erotic?

Overall documentation of this installation, everybody really thought that their would be a stripper or some kind of sexual entertainments in the installation.

DURING AND AFTER THE INSTALLATION
Setting up the installation was a difficulty to my intention, since the fabric was too heavy to withstand.  The fabric was a bit loose due to the mass and the amount of tension wasn't enough for a single person to stretch.  Even if there was enough tension, the fabric sheet wasn't thick enough when tying the strings, so it tore off immediately.  But that didn't stop the installation from continuing, since stretching the installation was a small factor, while the messages were the main purpose of the installation.  Luckily, I was able to tie one sheet as an example, while I display the other sheets with the help of my friends.

Since the installation was set at the entrance of the faculty, passersby were curious and looking down  on the installation if there was something inside the fabric.  But I couldn't tell if the thoughts of the audience after experiencing and reading the messages changed.  For some reason, I had a feeling that the messages were questioning life issues of the audience, whether choosing to study architecture would alter the future.

Overall it was an ok presentation, but it was disappointing that the installation didn't turn out to be as expected.  I wouldn't blame that the lights were shut down during the review, but somehow it kind of ruined everyone's mood.

Amusement facilities is a textbook found in the library in this faculty. I distorted the book, adding my pages into the book and make it blend as one. This is in purpose (as a concept) to bring in lounge into education.

- SIGNBOARD -

The light changes into many colors, like in club and lounge that uses light as a flash all the time. (This is base on the experiment and analysis.)

Punch's documentation and post-analysis on "Hidden space"

My installation was located at basketball court. It's 6*4 feet, the strucure was made of wood and the sur face was made from the mirror sticker stick on the card bord. I don't have enough budget for the material (acrylic sheet) so I choose this material. Every side of the surface can reflect the surrounding area to made it emulcification. And at the back of it has opened so people can get into it. Inside the box, there is a mirror sticker on all side of it. So it can reflect many view of yourself to let you see yourself in other point of view

Punch's installation development: "Hidden space"

Firstly, I eant to create the hidden space where people can get in to it in the open space.

So I do some case study by the acrylic to create the space that people can get into it and hide.

I have go to Pat pong, to feel the atmosphere of erotic place to get it into my work. The Food land's carpark at Pat pong was the place that I'm interesting. It's was built in 60's and I can feel many emotion, It was silent, dark and lonely. I try to develop it into my site.
I find the hidden place in the faculty, but it's not quite a open space. afterall I have choose the basketball court that's a really open space.

About the material, I have found some privacy glass which
When the electrical supply is switched on, the liquid crystal molecules align and incident light passes through and the LC SmartGlass panel instantly clears.
When the power is switched off the liquid crystal molecules are randomly oriented scattering light and the LC SmartGlass becomes opaque (private).

But it's too expensive also as the acrylic. So I choose the mirror sticker that can reflect the object but cheaper.
