Ajarn A had to come out of the installation after about a minute or two since the flashing strobe light was giving him headache.


It was the seniors who found the glass that contains water, which was located in the lower right corner of the breeze wall.

A shot glass inside a breeze block. For shot glasses that contained vinegar, sprite or clear water (all three are translucent), it was almost impossible to identify under the absence of proper lighting which of the three liquid is inside without picking the glass out to smell or taste.


From my observation, of all the four people that experienced my installation (Ajarn Pan, Ajarn A and two seniors), none walked on the dried leaves that were scattered on the floor and everybody walked along the path that was intentionally left free of dried leaves. 

It took 3:21 minutes to find the shot glass that contained pure water, but this was with three people searching instead of one. The estimated time was roughly 3 minutes, so the result was quite close to the expectation. Had there been only one person at a time, it may take a little bit longer since there are more shot glasses to check per person.

The glass that contained pure water was placed in the lower right block so that:

1. it was not at eye level
2. it was not around the center, which is where people will expect it to be since it's the most overlooked place to hide things ("the most dangerous place is also the safest place" concept)
3. the visitor will have to bend down or kneel down in order to see or grab the shot glasses, forcing them to interact and engage with the breeze wall

As I have already stated once in the previous project - erotic photography, that to me, for something to be considered erotic, it doesn't necessarily have to contain sexual representation or any sexual resemblance. The condition of the space itself or how it has transformed can be erotic as it stimulates and/or provoke thoughts. Familiarity can contribute to eroticism; a space that you see or passes through everyday becomes dull because you see it on a regular basis. When it is altered and the change gets noticed by the everyday user of that space, one can't help but to stop and question the difference that has taken place. For my previous photography project I explored how lighting can help enhance the erotic quality of a space, but as this project develops, my main focus shifts towards consciousness and how light can affect it, along with of course, familiarity. In my project, a common space is covered up, essentially making the inside dark which then allows for the lighting to be controlled and manipulated. The space is also manipulated through other temporary means, which changes it from its norm. The darkness that is generated from covering up the space and the strobe light is my experimentation on how light quality can affect erotic quality as much as to affect the visitor. However, the aim was not to enhance or refine the space to make it more erotically appealing, but rather to affect the participant directly while maintaining the space to remain close to what they are familiar with.
