Pichy's installation development : Eve and I

Site

The site is located on 1st floor, adjacent to the library's entrance in the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University.
The three top photos reveal the conditions during the day, while the bottom three was taken around 9:30 pm with a spotlight on.

The reason why I chose this corner is because of the windows that could become my symbolic source of natural light. Also the repetitive layout of the windows create many lines of perspective that draws the eye to the corner. The other wall is also white and plain good for a clean projection. However, the glass on the windows do reflect and thats the downside of the site.

Conceptual photomontage

This early photomontage was created to challenge the idea of what the site could transform into and the erotic ambience it can hold.

An apple traces back to the story of Adam and Eve and the roots of human sins. It was the object of luring that Adam and Eve fell for. Symbolically, the audience becomes the Adam and falls for it again.

This photomontage was a conceptual representation of my final idea on the installation. The apple has two sides, fresh on the right and rotten on the left. The artificial light that shone from the right creates the luring and deceiving side of the apple. Its inviting you to taste, smell, and touch the freshness of it. However, the natural light from the left reveals a bitter truth. Rotten and bitten, the apple is no longer what you thought it was before, fresh.

Soundtrack and Projection

The following video focuses mainly on the soundtrack as the projection is only a photograph at 2:20-2:35.
Music tracks that were used:
Good (Adam and Eve) Music Inspired by The Story
Ballet Mecanique 1924 by Fernand Leger
Spem in Alium by Thomas Tallis

The remix was done by Pichayut Sirawongprasert.

Diagrams

My initial diagrams revealed an idea that was almost completely carried out to the final installation. However, several modifications were made. At first, I wanted to use hand casts as the object for luring the audience. A simple barrier of strings or tape (shown in red) would be enough for viewers not to see clearly what's behind. This unclarity would be exposed by the spotlights that are moving across the room. On the right is a chart that marks the senses audience would be involved with this installation. Taken from Anthony Mccall, my visual representation do the luring, while, Elmgreen and Dragset's perhaps existing ambience would be taken and adapted to the soundtrack played in the installation. Smell or fragrance was cut off, simply because it was unnecessary. As smell, taste, and touch, could be implied naturally by the visual representation.

The storyboard or exact account of what the installation would do. For a precise performance, the time is recorded in seconds.

Below is the visual representation of what is above, just without text. It is clearly a timeline that shows the three stages of the installation. Stage 1 being the luring stage. Stage 2 being the confusing stage. Stage 3 being the revealing stage. Also, the general layout of the installation is shown below, indicating the placement of lights and electrical devices. A diagram of electrical circuit leads to manual switches instead of programmed circuits because the lights have to flicker accordingly to the soundtrack.
